The Best Virtual Headsets in the World
1:39:00 AM
Virtual Reality is a big
thing these days and many companies are starting to build their own VR (Virtual
Reality) headsets. So here’s a list of VR headsets that I think is going to be the
major players in the Virtual Reality Industry.
Oculus Rift
We can’t talk long about the VR world without
getting Oculus Rift involved. They are the company that made VR a reality and
after getting bought by Facebook they are moving forward at a rapid pace. The
developer editions are already out and consumer edition is up for pre ordering
at a high price of $599. The VR headset has a high resolution of 2100px *
1200px in an OLED screen and a refresh rate of 90Hz. The field of vision is 110
degrees and Oculus rate is said to have a very low latency compared to other VR
headsets. Oculus has also announced a controller code named Half Moon to
manipulate Virtual Objects in real time. The VR headset is supported by many
game developers including Valve and ID softwares (Creator of Doom and Quake
series). The first game getting released on Oculus Rift is Doom 3. Additionally
games like Eve: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale will be released. The Headset will
ship with a sensor, remote, various cables and Xbox One Controller. The headset
will initially supports PC (Pretty serious Rig needed though) and Xbox One
(High five for Xbox fans as Xbox seems to getting some love these days).
HTC Vive
The Taiwanese Smartphone maker has also entered the VR
industry with their own VR headset called HTC Vive and it has a feature that
the others don’t. The feature is called room tracking and it allows the user to
walk around the virtual world by moving in the real world. This is a cool and
unique feature since the other headsets need you to move by using a controller.
But folks this feature is limited to area of only 15 feet. This feature is further
made powerful by the controller which will allow you to control Virtual objects
in real time. The resolution of the headset is 1800px * 1200px and has a refresh
rate of 90Hz. The headset runs on a platform called Steam VR, an extension of
the Valve’s Platform so it includes a lot games. Some of them are Euro Truck Simulator
2, Surgeon Simulator 2013 and dinosaur crafting title Ark: Survival Evolved and
Valve’s own library of first-party games like Team Fortress 2 and The Orange
Box. HTC made some deals HBO, Lionsgate and Google to provide non gaming
content as well. But the only downfall is that this headset costs you a hefty
$799 for pre order. The headset is expected to ship on April 2016.
Playstation VR
o The playstation VR is the cheapest out of the
headsets here coming around at 399$ but it needs a Playstation 4. The headset
has a resolution of 1080p and 100 degrees of field of view in a 5.7 inch OLED
screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The headsets has 3D audio to create an
immersive audio experience crafted according to the side your head is turned
(Advanced surround system in stereo speakers basically). VR supported games for
the PS4 include titles like Battlezone, Headmaster, Robinson: The Journey, Wayward sky.
Have any VR headsets that you know is better than this three and
then comment and let me know.
